BACK TO THE ROOTS
From tugs to a modern fleet
In the early days of tugs, Gerard Gommers was known as on of the leading tugboat agents in the ‘Drecht’ cities, such as Zwijndrecht and Dordrecht.
In the 1930s, motorised ships were not an obvious matter yet. Thus, there were mainly tugboats. Cargo was picked up at the ‘Schippersbeurs’ and then towed to a central point. From there, the story about Gommers began. They had the cargo towed behind a strong boat to destinations in- and outside the national borders.
